Gong Cha History

Since its founding in 2006, Gong Cha has built a loyal following thanks to the recommendations of satisfied customers and the unique, tailor-made services it offers. Since then, the story of Gong cha has gone viral, and the company has quickly risen to prominence as a leading producer of premium tea around the world. Gong cha’s popularity has grown to over twenty regions.

The best tea in ancient times, known as Gong Cha, was presented to the king. Gong cha means we give the “Emperor” (the customer) our very finest service and products at all times. Established in 1997, “Gong cha” is a multinational franchise with outlets in more than 20 countries. As the leading tea franchise brand, they have been successful in selling teas with meaningful messages.

In 1996, Wu established a posh tea shop in Taiwan. As word spread about Wu’s tea shop, customers waited in lengthy lines to purchase their favourite beverage. So that all of their stores could provide the same high-quality tea to their customers, they decided to expand and standardise his recipes.

Wu spent a lot of time perfecting his tea blends, tasting them 23,000 times to assure consistency in quality across all of his locations. After securing a patent for his milk foam formula in 2006, Wu established Gong cha in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The new Gong cha continues the previous shop’s tradition of high-quality service and its promise to provide tea fit for a king. In ancient China, paying homage by bringing tea to the emperor was known as “gong cha.” Wu has high expectations for the quality of the tea served at Gong cha, so much so that he chose to name the business after it.

There wasn’t any secret sauce in their marketing or business planning that made them successful. The chain of teahouses, instead, relied on time-honored strategies like word-of-mouth to promote its wares.

In 2009, in response to the growing popularity of the Gong cha brand among foreign visitors to Taiwan, the company established a branch in Hong Kong. The brand’s popularity skyrocketed as news of it spread around Asia, starting in the Philippines.

The Martin Berrys fell in love with Gong cha after visiting a store there in 2011. They later visited Taiwan to plot their strategy for breaking into the Korean market. In Korea, the brand quickly became popular. From a single store in Hongdae, the popular tea company expanded to 250 sites across the country in just three short years as demand skyrocketed.

The spread of Gong Cha originated in Korea and spread to other parts of the world. In the years that followed, branches were opened in Australia, the USA, Mexico, Canada, and the UK, in addition to a thriving operation in Japan. Before Gong cha Vietnam achieved 4,000 cups daily in sales, Gong cha Japan sold over 3,000 cups daily.

Cristina took notice of the popularity of Gong cha in Japan. Similar to how Hong Kong launched the Asian development and Gong cha Korea propelled things even further, she extended the brand to Central and South America by founding Gong cha Mexico. Gong cha is gaining steam in its mission to introduce the globe to its refined flavour and high standards with each new development.

Gong cha established its worldwide headquarters in London in 2020, laying the groundwork for a proactive, centralised globalisation plan to be developed in the midst of this rapid global expansion. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Gong Cha has 1,600 locations worldwide and is still expanding. Gong cha’s product quality, brand reputation, knowledge base, strong franchise system, and competent headquarters allowed company to survive the epidemic without incurring severe damage.

Gong Cha Menu Prices In Philippines Taiwan continues Wu’s almost 30-year-old dedication to flavour and quality by supervising and supporting all current manufacturing and managing raw materials and methods. Gong cha’s major market, Korea, is also one of the most progressive when it comes to expanding the franchise model and going global.

From Taiwan to Seoul, across Asia, the Americas, Europe, and beyond, Gong cha tea is at the heart of the industry. Using just the freshest ingredients, it is brewed to perfection at just the right temperature, then garnished with the finest pearls.

With a maximum shelf life of just four hours, the company prepares all of its tea and pearls fresh in-store before they are sold. Tea bags or tea granules are never used in the company’s operations. Gong cha’s pursuit of excellence guarantees continual joy.
